Isle of Wight to feature on TV show

A woman from Isle of Wight is set to feature on popular BBC television show Wartime Farm.

Jayne Read will be shown on screen tonight (October 11th) helping to recreate 40s memorabilia for the programme.

Speaking to the Isle of Wight County Press, she explained the producers of the programme heard about her shop, Island Memories, and contacted her asking if she would take part.

Ms Read, who lives in Ryde, told the newspaper: "There is so much interest in the 40s era right now. It’s very fashionable."

She added it was a time of great economic hardship for a lot of people in the UK, meaning there are a number of parallels to be drawn with the present day.

But the entrepreneur explained there are also differences between the two periods, noting the war was "also an exciting time because no-one knew what was around the corner. People lived for the day and there was a great community spirit".

Clothes, furniture and kitchenware sourced by Ms Read are all going to be displayed on the show tonight and those who are interested in finding out more about the period can attend a vintage fair held at Quay Arts on October 27th on the Isle of Wight.

Ms Read runs her Island Memories business through social networking site Facebook, which recently marked the billionth person to sign up to its service.

She makes money through buying and selling vintage goods, some of which will be on show on Wartime Farm tonight and others which can be seen at the Quay Arts event later in the month.

Wartime Farm is an experiment to take a Hampshire location back in time to the war and it has been recreated as faithfully as possible by the producers of the programme.

It is shown on BBC Two and will be on tonight at 20:00 BST.
