Isle of Wight Steam Railway up for charity award

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is in with a chance of winning a grant after it made it through to the semi-finals of a competition to find the UK's favourite charity.

It is one of ten nominations for the Best Heritage Project category at the National Lottery Awards 2010, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

Should it win the competition, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway will win a £2,000 grant, as well as being featured in a television documentary that will be broadcast on the BBC.

The railway has been nominated for its work restoring vintage railway carriages.

Other projects in contention for the prize include Clitheroe Youth Forum, South Marine Park in South Tyneside and Edinburgh's Nelson Monument and Time Ball.

Visitors to the island who want to check out the Isle of Wight Steam Railway can attend a special Fathers' Day event this weekend (June 20th 2010).
