Isle of Wight sailing 'offers white-knuckle experience'
Fri 3 Sep 2010
People looking for a white-knuckle sailing experience may be tempted to book an Isle of Wight holiday, after a BBC journalist told of her experiences.
Lesley Curwen, the presenter of Business Daily for BBC World Service, headed to the Isle of Wight to check out the Extreme 40 racing series.
She explained that following her experience on one of the boats, she was "bruised but exhilarated".
"It was a short, sharp and ferocious introduction to competitive sailing, but the adrenaline high was spectacular," she said.
Following this year's Cowes Week - the international sailing event which is held every year on the Isle of Wight - another writer suggested a new race to add to the schedule.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Brendan Gallagher suggested Britain could take on France in the seas around the Isle of Wight as this could be an interesting match-up that could capture the imagination of the audience.
