Isle of Wight pool reopens

Tourists on Isle of Wight holidays who want to go for a swim during their time on the island will be able to do so after a popular location reopened due to the efforts of volunteers.

Dozens of people pitched in to help with work at Ryde's Waterside Pool and the venue is now reopen for visitors as a result of a wide range of refurbishment work.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, two new gas boilers have been installed at the facility as part of the scheme.

The pool had been closed for two weeks while the project was managed and it is now under community ownership and run by the Waterside Community Trust after funding for the location was cut by the Isle of Wight Council following a spending review by the local authority.

Volunteers turned up at the pool in order to give the venue a thorough clean ahead of its reopening on Monday (March 5th), while the offices and reception area were also spruced up with a fresh coat of paint to complete the refurbishment work.

More plans are now set to move forward with the future development of the pool, as the former open-air children's pool area is to be transformed, with decking to be laid and the area to be landscaped over the course of the coming months.

The Waterside Pool Trust is planning to run promotions such as one where kids under the age of eight go free, which may attract more families on Isle of Wight holidays to the facility during their breaks on the island.

Visitors to Ryde may also wish to head to Appley Tower on their vacation, as it was recently described by the Daily Telegraph as offering "stunning" views across the Solent to the mainland.
