Isle of Wight home to giant moth

Wildlife lovers on Isle of Wight holidays over the next few days are to get the chance to check out a rare species during their time on the island.

Staff at Butterfly and Fountain World, Wootton, have managed to breed a giant Atlas moth, a creature that is usually more at home in the jungles of Thailand.

But the animal is only expected to live for a few more days, so those who want to catch a glimpse of the massive insect will have to be quick.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, there are also a number of caterpillars from the creature in various stages of their development that can be viewed.

Butterfly World is open every day and a family of four - two adults and two children - can buy a ticket for the venue for just £18.95, or pay an extra £3 for three adults and three kids.
