Isle of Wight holiday could feature blooming gardens

Tourists taking Isle of Wight holidays this summer can visit gardens on the island that have been entered into a competition.

Wight in Bloom gives islanders the chance to show off their gardening skills, with the winner of the prizes to be announced in June or July, depending on what class a garden is entered into.

Co-ordinator Andy McIntyre, who is also the parks officer for the Isle of Wight Council, stated that there is still time for islanders to enter Wight in Bloom.

He told the Isle of Wight County Press: "We are looking for gardens with structure, colour and depth of interest.

"The aim of Wight in Bloom is to improve our surroundings and raise standards of horticulture."

Those taking Isle of Wight holidays later this year could spend a day exploring the gardens created for Wight in Bloom and may also be interested in taking a trip to the Ventnor Botanic Garden, which plays host to a variety of exhibitions over the summer months.
