Isle of Wight Film Festival underway in Ventnor

The Isle of Wight Film Festival: Cinema by the Sea is currently taking place in Ventnor, with visitors encouraged to head along and check out the many screenings that are taking place.

Launched on Wednesday (August 14th), this year's event features three times more entries than in 2012 and is the biggest festival to have been put on to date.

All films are being shown at the Sacred Theatre in downtown Ventnor, with entrants competing in a range of categories to receive a range of awards for their artistic interpretation, filmmaking craft and storytelling.

Among the highlights of this show calendar in 2013 are a range of short dramas produced by filmmakers from across the globe.

Saturday by David Anderson from the UK, The Fugue by Xavier Bonnin of France, Margerita from Alessandro Grande of Italy and Noite Perdida (A Wasted Night) by Filippo Capuzzi Lapietra of Brazil are all being shown today (August 15th).

Meanwhile, films based on human rights and the environment also make up a considerable portion of entrants in this year's competitions.

However, it is not just new works that are getting an airing at the festival this year, with classic movie The Way We Were starring Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand also being shown.

Launched in 2007, the Isle of Wight Film Festival has gone from strength to strength in recent years, with 2013 focusing on youth and art house productions in particular.

This has not been the case in the past though, as 2012 was committed to the promotion of feature-length movies and in previous years the aim has been to showcase local talented filmmakers.

All screenings will cost just £5 to attend and there are showings taking place throughout the day for visitors to enjoy. The festival will be running until Saturday (August 17th) when the winners in each of the categories will be announced by the show's panel of judges.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801625717-ADNFCR
