Isle of Wight attracts millions each year

Millions of people visit the Isle of Wight each year via ferry, new passenger numbers released by the Department for Transport have revealed.

The statistics show that nine million people each year travel to the Isle of Wight via a ferry, with only Dover handling a higher number of passengers per annum.

Island MP Andrew Turner stated that the figures highlight the reliance of the Isle of Wight on its ferry companies.

Speaking to VentnorBlog, he said: "The Isle of Wight Council is opening up discussion on the island's economic development plans and consulting on transport plans."

Mr Turner encouraged as many people as possible to get involved with making these decisions, because the outcomes will impact everyone who either lives on or visits the island.

Isle of Wight ferry operator Red Funnel carries around three million passengers each year and has various safety awards to its name, as well as an Investor in People Award.
