Island Games for those on Isle of Wight holidays?

Those looking for some action while on Isle of Wight holidays may want to make their way over to Ventnor later in the month.

This is because the area - which started as a health resort during Victorian times - is playing host to two events in the NatWest Island Games between June 25th and July 1st, which will see more than 3,000 athletes from 25 islands around the world competing in a number of sports, the Isle of Wight Chronicle reports.

Cycling and volleyball will be taking place in Ventnor, with the Cycling Criterion races taking over the region on June 26th, as riders make their way around the high streets as part of an 800-metre course.

The volleyball contest, meanwhile, is happening in Rew Valley Sports Hall at Ventnor Middle School between June 26th and July 1st.

Chairman of the Island Games Association Isle of Wight David Bell said: "We are expecting large numbers of spectators and media to attend the criterion event, and we hope local businesses will benefit from this."
