Have fun on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway

The Isle of Wight Steam Railway is a fantastic attraction for anyone visiting the island throughout the year.

It delivers award-winning tours of the island and also puts on a number of special events each season in celebration of the history and spectacular beauty of the Isle of Wight.

Founded 40 years ago, the railway offers plenty of options for those keen to explore the island, but to do so in a state of luxury and relaxation. With stops at Smallbrook Junction, Ashey, Haven Street and Wootton, guests can get on and off when and where they choose, with the option to jump aboard once again when they are in the mood to head that bit further down the line.

Coming up in the next few months are some of the best events of the Steam Railway's busy calendar, including the Heritage Open Weekend and Model Railway Show, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway Wine Festival and the Autumn Steam Gala.

The Heritage Weekend will be taking place on September 7th and 8th and will enable model railway enthusiasts to come and examine an array of fantastic examples of model railways from more than the last 100 years before heading outside and jumping aboard the real thing.

Meanwhile, this year's Wine Festival is set to be held at the Haven Street station on September 28th and 29th and is one focused more on mums and dads.

Individuals will be taken on a tasting voyage of discovery, as they sample an array of wines from across the globe, taking in France, New Zealand, Australia and even a number of local offerings.

Tickets for the festival will cost £5 per person and guests can upgrade to a trip on the steam railway for an additional £10.50 for adults and £5.50 for children, while groups of two kids accompanied by two adults can purchase a family pass for £26.50.

The Autumn Steam Gala is sure to be one of the most exciting attractions for island visitors who simply love the world of steam locomotion, with three Victorian island steam engines to be in operation during the course of the celebrations.

It is to be held on October 5th and 6th and will include displays of original steam locomotives from the late 19th century in an unrestored state and compare these two the three fully operational models the railway now has in use.

Furthermore, visitors will be treated to a film screening of Island Steam - a movie highlighting the history and importance of the steam industry to the heritage of the Isle of Wight - as well as be able to enjoy an array of refreshments, including a real ale bar put on by Island Breweries.

A two-day ticket for the event is set to cost adults £20, while children five to 15 years old will be able to get in for £10.00. Kids under five will be able to gain entry for free. Meanwhile, a single-day pass to the event will cost £10 and £6 respectively.

Those planning a visit to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway in December might also like to take part in the attraction's annual Santa Special - where youngsters will be able to meet jolly old St Nick himself and receive a present, while mums and dads can sit and back and relax on an extended 50-minute tour. It is running from December 7th to 24th.

Overall, there really is something to do all the time from now until the new year at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, so why not head along and enjoy the sights of the island from the luxury of a bygone era?ADNFCR-3083-ID-801631943-ADNFCR
