Great space-themed events happening this month on the Isle of Wight

There's always something happening on the Isle of Wight and this summer looks set to be the most packed season yet with dozens of activities for people of all ages.

Naturally, the island attracts people from all over thanks to its beautiful scenery and stunning seaside views. However, there's is also a lot of history too and plenty of educational aspects for people to enjoy.

For example, Space Beyond, which is being run by the Isle of Wight college students from the learning opportunities department, will be taking place next week (June 20th) and is designed to give children an in-depth insight into the world beyond the stars.

What makes this show so different is Mars, Venus, Mercury and Jupiter will all be explored using the medium of dance.

The various dances are set to a mix of classical, electro and swing music including the Planet Suite by Holst. There are several themes during the presentation, including war, peace, messaging and joy. Each one is portrayed in movement and is further enhanced by atmospheric lighting and images.

It is certainly an ambitious project and will take an interesting and entertaining look into space. It's the perfect event for kids curious about what lies beyond.

Tickets for the event cost £3 each and the evening begins with a reception and preview of an art exhibition created by the Learning Opportunities’ Arts class to be held in the Learning Curve Gallery between 6.00pm and 7.00pm, with the dance performance taking place afterwards.

The Big Wight Space Exhibition 2013 will take place this month too and includes paintings by Rowland Glaysher of Rollzart, Steve Fox and Anouska Blake at Rembrandt Gallery in Newport. It will be open from June 24th to 29th and it's completely free to enter.

During the evenings and in the night, the Isle of Wight becomes a great place to do some stargazing should the clouds part.

It's no surprise many people take a short break to the island, especially in the summer months when so much is going on.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801600606-ADNFCR
