Gilad Atzmon to perform on Isle of Wight

Music lovers considering Isle of Wight holidays may wish to book tickets to an upcoming concert in the area featuring Israeli-born jazz musician Gilad Atzmon, who is well-known across the UK for his energetic live shows and innovative approach to traditional forms.

Atzmon, who is based in London, came to the UK in 1994 and has musical training from the Rubin Academy of Music, Jerusalem.

He can play soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone as well as clarinet and flute, and has performed in numerous groups as well as earning a strong reputation as a solo musician.

The talented saxophonist is playing at the Quay Arts Cafe on March 1st, with the show beginning at 20:00 GMT. Doors will be open from 18:30, with visitors encouraged to enjoy a drink and a meal before the performance begins.

Admission is priced at £11 in advance, with tickets available on the door for £13.

Atzmon's album Exile was the BBC jazz album of the year in 2003 and praised for its exploration of political themes, focusing on the conflict between Israel and Palestine and what the musician perceives as Zionism's unwillingness to adapt to the modern world.

"While some may find Exile's premise provocative, it's satisfying music that reaffirms the essentially constructive nature of collaboration," Neil Bennum argued in his BBC Music review.

Group projects Atzmon has taken part in include the Orient House Ensemble, which he founded in London in 2000.

With Eddie Hick on drums, Yaron Stavi on bass and Frank Harrison on piano and electronics, the band have performed across the globe and produced six albums.

Atzmon is also known for his controversial and engaging polemical essays, which also deal with modern Judaism and the ongoing issues facing the Middle East, as well as for novels that have been translated into 24 languages.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801517466-ADNFCR
