Fort Victoria to continue stargazing events

Stargazers inspired by the recent BBC series on the activity hosted by the likes of Dara O'Briain and Professor Brian Cox need not give up their hobby now all the fuss has died down, as the Fort Victoria country park complex will be continuing its sessions at the planetarium.

The Isle of Wight venue will host stargazing events towards the end of each month, with the next one being February 28th, although they will not be held from June through to August. The dates have been chosen to coincide with the darkest skies, which are best for the activity.

Booking is required and there is a charge of £45 per person for an entire weekends' worth of fun.

Friday evening is usually dedicated to an introductory talk on stargazing and a demonstration of the constellations. Saturday morning is given over to a discussion on the sun, with visitors able to visit the island's Observatory in the afternoon.

There is then an educational talk on the life and death of stars in the evening followed by more stargazing, with Sunday dedicated to ensuring attendees have the know-how to continue their hobby when they get home.

Crucially, each session is limited to just 15 attendees, to maximise opportunities to use the planetarium's telescopes and take advantage of the personal attention of the on-site astronomers.

Many of the talks and discussion activities make use of the interactive virtual reality planetarium dome, which is an impressive sight in itself as it replicates the night sky exactly.

Those unable to attend the next stargazing weekend should clear a space in their diary for March 28th, April 25th or May 30th, as the next available date will be in September.

Once you've booked the weekend, don't forget to arrange your ferry over to the Isle of Wight.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801686267-ADNFCR
