Enjoy Real Ale Festival on the Isle of Wight

Beer lovers have been encouraged to head to the Isle of Wight in May for the Real Ale Festival.

The event is being staged at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet, near Ryde, on May 1st-3rd 2010.

According to the Isle of Wight Council, the event should therefore appeal to both fans of real ale and classic locomotives.

The authority promised that visitors will be able to sample some of the Isle of Wight's top brewery blends, as well as classic English country wines and ciders.

Admission to the event is free, although people will have to buy a ticket if they want a ride on the steam train.

Much of the island's railway network was closed in the 1950s and 1960s.

However, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway preserves the sights and smells of the halcyon days of train travel and has won numerous accolades over the years.

It also received a royal endorsement when HM The Queen visited in 2004.
