Enjoy musical evenings when visiting the Isle of Wight

Individuals planning a visit to the Isle of Wight over the coming weeks might like to enjoy a few evenings of musical entertainment during their stay, with a number of such events being put on across the island.

The Isle of Wight County Press reports the Spyglass Inn in Ventnor, the Steamer Inn in Shanklin and the Dairyman's Daughter in Arreton are all set to host a number of special events to showcase local musical talent throughout February and March, with a final for the best performers to be held at the Bargeman's Rest in Newport on March 21st.

Created by IW Radio to support the island's tavern trade, the special gigs will offer the chance for entrants to be awarded regular performance slots at bars and pubs across the island in the future.

Free to head along to, the first event will be taking place at the Spyglass of February 21st.

Meanwhile, Bestival is set to be a major attraction for music lovers heading to the Isle of Wight later this year, as the festival is set to boast an enthralling line-up in 2013.

Earlier this month, veteran performer Sir Elton John confirmed he will be taking to the stage as a headline act on the final evening of the event, while other massive names in the world of music that are set to get crowds excited this year will include Snoop Dogg, MIA, Franz Ferdinand, Flaming Lips, Belle & Sebastian and many more besides.

Commenting on his upcoming performance, Sir Elton noted: "I haven't played any of the major festivals in the UK in recent years, so when the opportunity to play Bestival came up I was very interested.

"I've heard that the Bestival audience comes in fancy dress and I can't wait to see that, they must all look amazing from the stage."

The festival kicks off on September 5th for four nights and will be taking place at Robin Hill Country Park.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801540028-ADNFCR
