Enjoy a Valentine's Day tour of Victoria's Isle of Wight home

The Isle of Wight offers everything loved-up couples could wish for on a Valentine's Day break, from woodland walks to world-class seafood restaurants and hotels.

However, when it comes to romance, few experiences can beat a trip to Osborne House, a former royal residence that played host to Queen Victoria and her beloved Prince Albert over many a happy summer.

One of the finest examples of neo-Italian renaissance architecture anywhere in the British Isles, the palace will always best be known as being the favourite retreat of the long-reigning monarch, with Victoria herself having often stating that she spent her happiest days with her husband there, just outside the town of Cowes.

This Valentine's Day, visitors will be able to hear the love story of Victoria and Albert on special tours of Osborne House, with experts on hand to guide couples through the ornate rooms and the landscaped gardens.

What's more, Valentine's Day guests will be treated to a glass of Champagne as well as a traditional afternoon tea, taken overlooking the gardens where the Queen herself once said "it is impossible to imagine a prettier spot".

Tickets for the special day are available through English Heritage, which looks after Osborne House now that it is no longer a working Royal Palace, with prices for members just £65 per couple.

However, couples needn't break the bank in order to enjoy a romantic getaway to the picturesque Isle of Wight in February.

From the ferry from the mainland to the harbour town of Cowes, to its bars, restaurants and hotels, the island is one of England's best-value holiday destinations, and many of its top attractions are completely free.

For instance, taking in the sunset over the Needles is a long-standing favourite pastime of both couples of holidaying families alike, while the boutique shops of towns such as Cowes and Newport, as well as the countless cosy pubs on offer, help add that something extra to any short break.
