Enjoy a Snowman Spectacular this month

Gift to Nature is set to host its annual Sandman Snowman Spectacular this month, with visitors invited to come down and build the best snow/sandman they can.

Set to take place on January 20th and free to all guests, the event will see participants building on Small Hope Beach, Shanklin.

Visitors to the Isle of Wight might like to head along to try their hand at this fun activity, with the organisers stating that come sleet, snow, rain or shine, they will be out on the beach building.

It kicks off at 10:30 GMT and last until approximately 14:00, with guests being treated to a steaming mug of hot chocolate to ward away the winter weather during their creation. All people have to do if they want to get involved is bring their friends and family, a bucket and spade and get building.

Carrots and lumps of coal will also be readily available for those building their own sandman creation.

Gift to Nature is responsible for an array of conservation projects across the island and hosts a number of special events each year to encourage visitors and locals alike to recognise the rare beauty and diversity of the Isle of Wight.

The Sandman Snowman Spectacular is just one of many events being put on by the organisation, with other attractions including the Troll Trail at Merston Station and the ongoing Save Our Swifts campaign, which looks to highlight the plight of these dwindling creatures in the British Isles.

Meanwhile, this month will also see the 125th anniversary of the founding of Newport FC, with the club holding a special celebration being held at St George's Park on January 26th.

The Isle of Wight County Press reports sports fans are invited to head along for the top-of-the-table clash between Newport and Bemerton Heath Harlequins at 14:00, followed by an open house that will run until 01:00.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801520856-ADNFCR
