Cycling is 'environmentally friendly way to travel on Isle of Wight'

The Isle of Wight Council has encouraged people to bring their bikes with them when they travel to the island on holiday.

This is because cycling is the most environmentally friendly way to get around the Isle of Wight.

It is already a popular pastime for Isle of Wight holidaymakers, with the annual Isle of Wight Cycling Festival drawing many to the island for their summer break.

This year, the event takes place from September 18th to 26th, with rides for all skill levels and ages on offer during the week of biking.

The island has also recently featured in BBC television series Britain by Bike.

Councillor George Brown said: "I feel sure that this new BBC television series will encourage more cyclists to visit the island, as well as those seeking a relaxing UK break".

A highlight of the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival could be the Cycle the Wight challenge, which features routes of 15, 50 and 70-mile lengths.
