Competition aims to encourage exploration of Isle of Wight

Children from the Isle of Wight are being encouraged to explore the ecology of the island.

Naturezones is holding a competition for children from the Isle of Wight to write an essay about biodiversity on the island, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

Project manager Angela Hewitt said the aim of the competition is to increase awareness of the island's wildlife and ecology and to encourage people to explore the Isle of Wight's environment more.

Ms Hewitt explained that she is looking for children to present interesting information on the Isle of Wight's biodiversity, as well as good writing skills for each age group.

She said: "The pictorial essays are class projects giving groups of children the opportunity to take part in school."

Prizes for Isle of Wight children entering the competition include book vouchers, a visit to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, a nest box and a camera.

Naturezones is also asking for volunteers to help with training days and conservation work. ADNFCR-3083-ID-19767296-ADNFCR
