Check out some Isle of Wight astronomy

Anyone planning a trip to the Isle of Wight over the coming weeks with a propensity for stargazing might like to head along to the Island Planetarium for one of the centre's many spectacular shows.

Opened in 1993, the planetarium provides visitors with insights into the cosmos and the stunning scenery that can be viewed by everyone of us simply by taking a look into the night's sky.

Shows currently taking place at the facility include We Are Aliens, Cell! Cell! Cell!, Welcome to the Universe and What's in the Sky Tonight.

We Are Aliens takes guests on a fascinating journey as it looks to find evidence of extraterrestrial life in our galaxy. It includes the latest theories and research on finding alien life and is narrated by Rupert Grint.

Meanwhile, Cell! Cell! Cell! is a 25-minute spectacle that delves into the Human body, focusing on the 70 trillion cells that make the body of every single Human Being. It looks at how they work, what they do and the conversations they might have if they were able to.

Welcome to the Universe is perhaps the most traditional of the shows on offer at the planetarium right now, featuring a journey through time and space for guests, looking at the stars of the universe and drawing on the mythology and science that has shaped the way we view the sky at night. It also features a special bonus feature entitled Losing the Dark.

Finally, What's in the Sky Tonight is a live representation of the cosmos above the conservatory and uses the facility's digital AstroDome to highlight the constellations and "signposts" that help people to navigate their way around the sky at night.

Admission to the many shows at this fantastic Isle of Wight attraction starts from just £4 for adults, £2.50 for children and £3.25 for concessions including students and OAPs.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801631176-ADNFCR
