60s legend coming to the Isle of Wight

A real 60s legend is due to arrive on the Isle of Wight next month to share his life story.

Gerry Marsden, of Gerry and the Pacemakers fame, will be wowing the audience at the Shanklin Theatre with a night of nostalgia that's not to be missed if you're a fan of his number one hits 'How Do You Do It?', 'I Like It' and 'You'll Never Walk Alone', the Liverpool FC anthem.

On the evening of February 27th, Marsden will tell tales of his beginnings in Liverpool, the fame and fortune of the 60s and what happened next, interspersed with renditions of the Pacemakers' greatest hits.

Tickets for Gerry Cross the Mersey - a play on the title of the band's 1965 film 'Ferry Cross the Mersey'; known as their 'A Hard Day's Night' - cost £19.50 and have been selling fast, so book online now to avoid disappointment.

Of course, like the river crossing Liverpool, the best way to reach the Isle of Wight is to travel by ferry, so the trip is likely to bring back strong memories for Marsden himself.

In his and the band's heyday, Gerry and the Pacemakers were as big as fellow Liverpudlians The Beatles, and became the first act to reach number one in the UK singles chart with their first three singles. Sadly they couldn't match the Fab Four for longevity and by late 1966 they had disbanded.

Next month's performance at the Shanklin Theatre therefore represents an incredible opportunity for those who bought the original records when they were first released in the 60s to hear them played by Marsden once again.

It's also another example of just how vibrant the island's art scene is, with the numerous venues dotted around it able to attract plenty of big names. Other celebrities coming to the Shanklin Theatre this year include TV presenter Chris Packham, iconic musician Adam Ant and Madness frontman Suggs. ADNFCR-3083-ID-801678501-ADNFCR
