Midsummer Mardi Gras to take place in June

Visitors to the Isle of Wight this summer might like to treat themselves to the revelry and fun that is bound to be part of the annual Midsummer Mardi Gras

Celebrating its tenth year in 2013, the Mardi Gras promises to be a festival of fun for visitors, including a colourful and lively street procession, complete with live music and hundreds of performers all in spectacular costume.

Frankie Goldspink, participation and learning manager for The New Carnival Company, noted this year's theme is 'Art Histories' and it is sure to go down a treat with the hundreds of visitors that are expected to head along.

Ms Goldspink added: "The New Carnival Company prides itself on delivering a well organised, exciting and safe event. Midsummer Mardi Gras will showcase months of hard work by all ages and abilities, the result of a range of arts activities both in school and in the wider community."

Midsummer Mardi Gras will be taking place on June 29th in Sandown at 15:00 GMT and is free to head along to visitors of all ages.

Individuals keen to get into the community spirit while on an island getaway in the coming weeks might also like to head to the annual Yarmouth Carnival, which will be held over the Easter weekend.

One of the main events of the carnival both this and every year is the annual Duck Race on the River Yar, with 1,000 rubber ducks being released into the waters and then racing on the tide to be the first to cross the finishing line at the Yar Bridge.

A true spectacle for all the family, mums and dads will be able to purchase tickets to enter the race both on the day and in the run-up to the festival, with those in possession of the corresponding tickets of the first four ducks to cross the line being named this year's winners.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801548213-ADNFCR
