Isle of Wight Sweetcorn Fayre claims record

People on Isle of Wight holidays may have witnessed a new world record being set at the recent Sweetcorn Fayre.

Local chef and farmer Ben Brown cooked a giant sweetcorn fritter that was lauded as a record-sized version of the snack, as it was 4ft in diameter and 1.3cm thick, BBC News reports.

Cooked over a charcoal fire, the fritter was cut up into individual portions to feed some of the 5,000 visitors who attended the Isle of Wight event, which took place on September 25th and 26th.

"It was actually ok - everybody there managed to consume the whole lot," Andrew Gibbs of fayre organisers Arreton Barns Craft Village told the news provider.

The huge fritter was made with 60 eggs and 30 cobs of corn that had been grown on the Isle of Wight.

Now in its fourth year, the annual Sweetcorn Fayre took place at Arreton Barns as part of the British Food Fortnight. It included live music and various family activities, including a tractor trailer ride.
