Walk the Wight hailed as 'something special'

The Walk the Wight event that was held as part of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival earlier this month has been hailed as a huge success.

It is thought that thousands of people have booked Isle of Wight holidays in order to take part in the trek, with senior hospice fundraiser and walk organiser Karen Eeles describing it as an amazing day.

Speaking to the Isle of Wight County Press at the finish line of the event at Alum Bay, she said: "It never fails to amaze me how brilliant the walkers are. So many happy faces - it really is something special."

Money raised from the Walk the Wight challenge - which is always one of the most popular treks in the annual Isle of Wight Walking Festival - will go to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.

The festival continues until the weekend, with the beaches, bars and blisters three-day trek bringing it to a close.
