Isle of Wight Walking Festival to celebrate 15 years

The 15th annual Isle of Wight Walking Festival is take place this year, with more than 250 picturesque outdoor pursuits on offer for visitors to the island.

Founded in 1999, the annual event has grown from just 39 registered walks to more than six times this figure in recent years, with participants able to enjoy the fantastic scenery which the Isle of Wight has to offer.

Running from May 4th to 19th and then again from October 25th to 28th, the event is set to attract more than 20,000 avid outdoor enthusiasts in 2013.

Some of the most popular circuits include the Seven Hills walk in Freshwater Cliffs, as well as the Beaches Bars and Blisters three-day getaway that covers more than 24 miles of the island and takes in beautiful countryside.

All of the events are free to head along to, but anyone interested is urged to sign up beforehand in order to secure their place.

The event is sponsored by an array of Isle of Wight's biggest names, including Isle of Wight Tourism, the Isle of Wight Council, Red Funnel, Natural England, the National Trust, Country Walking and many more.

Other attractions that might entice fans of the great outdoors who are planning an island getaway in the coming months include the creation of The Wave: IOW - a new in-land wave centre where visitors can learn the skills required for a number of water sports.

Company co-founder Tobin Coles told the Isle of Wight County Press: "The Isle of Wight is a great fit for The Wave - it is rural, has a resident surfing community but also attracts a good influx of tourists every year.

"We are in discussions with a number of key organisations, such as the council and Wightlink, regarding the project but can now confirm that it is definitely our intention to create The Wave: IOW."ADNFCR-3083-ID-801557400-ADNFCR
