Isle of Wight Walking Festival routes available as phone downloads

The organisers of the Isle of Wight Walking Festival are set to make information on the event's routes available to smartphone users.

By teaming up with Augmentra's phone-based GPS service ViewRanger, the festival's administrators will be allowing visitors to download map data on the various trails to their Apple, Android and Symbian handsets.

This information will be free of charge for the duration of the annual event, which takes place this year between May 7th and 22nd and represents the largest walking festival of its kind in the UK.

Around 300 different walks are available to choose from, allowing those on Isle of Wight holidays to enjoy more than 500 miles' worth of well-kept and clearly signposted paths.

As they travel along the various routes, walkers will be able to take in around 30 miles of Heritage Coastline, while more than half of the island's locales have been recognised as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
