Isle of Wight Walking Festival 'has treks suitable for everyone'

The Isle of Wight Walking Festival has been hailed by the island's council for offering treks that are suitable for everyone who wants to get involved.

Councillor George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for leisure and tourism, stated that walking is the best way to see the island and pointed out most of the events taking place during the fortnight of activities are free to join.

"The programme has been put together to ensure there are walks suitable for everyone, from short level routes accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs to longer more challenging routes for the experienced rambler," he said.

Mr Brown added that in the 12 years since the Isle of Wight Walking Festival was founded, it has helped to give the island a reputation as a great place for walkers to try out their skills.

The 2011 Isle of Wight Walking Festival starts on Saturday (May 7th) and features treks such as a Tai Chi Walk, Discover Culver Downs and the Tennyson Trail.
