'Things are looking up' for Isle of Wight holidays

The government's commitment to English tourism could result in more and more people choosing to book Isle of Wight holidays.

Speaking at a VisitEngland media update, James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, pointed out that tourism is very important to the economy of the country.

"I'm not surprised because the staycation shouldn't be seen as a cheap alternative. We have a real quality," he said.

Mr Berresford was commenting after the release of the VisitEngland Business Confidence Monitor for accommodation businesses indicated that holidaying in the UK is becoming a more popular option for British people.

The poll found that almost nine-tenths of accommodation providers expressed satisfaction with their profits over the summer months.

Isle of Wight holidays may therefore become more popular as Mr Berresford said he is "confident" people will continue to take breaks in the UK rather than going abroad.

Brainstrust director Helen Bulbeck, who is organising an upcoming charity ball on the island, recently told the Isle of Wight County Press that the island has breathtaking scenery.
