Take a tour of Queen Victoria's Osborne House

Osborne House was the summer home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who fell in love with the place during their first visit.

There is so much to see at the royal residence, which is situated in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, and it is a popular spot for newcomers to the island and local history buffs alike.

The private rooms of the monarch, as well as her nursery, are open to the public, and visitors will love marvelling at the breath-taking view across the Solent from the terraces.

Dedicated tours are held regularly at the house, and anyone visiting the island this November should time their trip with the In The Footsteps Of The Famous event, which will take attendees round the principal royal ground floor rooms.

Not only will you be able to imagine what life was like for Queen Victoria as she spent relaxing summers in Cowes, but you will also hear stories of the many famous guests she had to stay.

These include a number of prime ministers, such as Benjamin Disraeli, Robert Peel and William Gladstone, and the great inventor Alexander Graham Bell.

Important figures travelled from afar to see the queen at Osborne House, including Czar Nicholas and Czarina Alexandra and Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Benefit from expert knowledge as you wander around the property, taking in the magnificent furnishings, artwork and scenery. The tours are suitable for all ages, so it's a great family activity.

The guides are taking place on the weekends of November 9th and 10th and 16th and 17th, and while they are free for English Heritage members, adult tickets are £10 and admission for children aged five to 15 is £6.

As well as the escorted tour, the price of the ticket includes entry to the grounds, including the beach, which is a 20-minute stroll from the main house down the Valley Path and was where Victoria and her children used to bathe regularly.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801645059-ADNFCR
