One in three Brits 'to holiday in UK'

Destinations such as the Isle of Wight could prove popular with British tourists this year, as many people are planning to take their holidays in the UK.

According to a survey by Lloyds TSB, one in three Britons intend to stay at home during 2010.

This is likely to be good news for established tourism hotspots in the UK, such as the Isle of Wight.

Indeed, the Isle of Wight Council recently launched a new marketing campaign designed to promote the island as a "quality" holiday destination.

This campaign is making strong use of the internet, in particular sites such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Flickr.

Lloyds TSB also found that a third of people in the UK have already booked their main holiday for this year.

The findings come in the run-up to British Tourism Week, a national campaign designed to promote the country's various attractions and the value of tourism to the economy.
