Isle of Wight tourism enters new era

The Isle of Wight Council has announced that the formation of a new tourism board for the island is a step nearer.

A report to be discussed by the Isle of Wight Council's Cabinet early next week (April 3rd) is set to see a recommendation made for the authority to begin formally creating a new Destination Management Organisation (DMO).

The new organisation would be tasked with promoting and developing the Isle of Wight as a world-class visitor destination, a statement from the council revealed.

Councillor George Brown, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member responsible for tourism, said: "This is a timely opportunity for the council to reappraise its support for tourism and to create a more effective and sustainable structure for its future development."

Last month, the local authority announced it was to carry out a raft of improvement works at Seaclose Park in Newport ahead of this year's Isle of Wight Festival, which takes place in June.
