Isle of Wight tourism campaign launched

Tourists who have recently taken Isle of Wight holidays have been invited to contribute to research aiming to find out what the best places to go on the island are.

Isle of Wight Tourism is looking for hidden gems, so it is able to publicise them more.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, these could include a top restaurant, a secret beach or even somewhere on the island offering a particularly attractive view.

Strategic manager for economy, tourism and events at Isle of Wight Tourism Ashley Curzon said: "We want to find out what people love about the Island so they can share those special, hidden places with everyone and recommend them as must-see destinations when visiting us."

In order to place their nominations, visitors who have been on Isle of Wight holidays, as well as the island's residents, can head to the Isle of Wight Tourism fan page on Facebook.

The site has already got close to 8,000 fans and those who 'like' it will be able to access an interactive map, which shows some of the island's most popular locations.

A number of suggestions for hidden gems have already been made by visitors to the website, such as the seaside town of Ventnor.

Writing on the page, Alison Humphries explained that she first went on an Isle of Wight holiday when she was nine years old and has since returned to Ventnor every year for the last four decades.

Whitecliff Bay was also highlighted for its "pure nostalgia" by Karen Foggett, while Isle of Wight resident Claire Robertson was full of praise for the "unbelievable" views on offer at Tennyson Down in Freshwater.

She also had a tip for families on Isle of Wight holidays who fancy a day out to the seaside, signalling the ice cream on offer at Yarmouth Pier is the best she has ever tasted.
