Isle of Wight 'is an extraordinary island'

The Isle of Wight has been named as one of the most extraordinary islands in the world.

According to eTurboNews, this is partly because of its long-term popularity with some of the most famous names in history.

Indeed, Queen Victoria was named as one person who enjoyed taking Isle of Wight holidays, along with Charles Dickens and Alfred Tennyson.

All three were said to have enjoyed the Isle of Wight's mild climate, sandy beaches and panoramic views.

Meanwhile, eTurboNews highlighted its popularity with music lovers as another interesting selling point of the island.

"Imagine the impact of 600,000 rock fans arriving in 1970 for the third annual Isle of Wight Festival, where Jimi Hendrix blew fans' minds," it commented.

The festival was revived in 2002 and has since attracted the likes of David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and Coldplay.

This year's bill includes Pink, The Strokes, Doves, Florence and the Machine and Sir Paul McCartney.
