Isle of Wight holidays to be promoted

Isle of Wight holidays could be set for a boost in popularity due to being promoted to thousands of people at a new exhibition.

The island is to be shown off in an interactive display at the world-famous Hamleys toy store in London, with tens of thousands of people expected to visit over the course of the coming weekend (August 20th and 21st).

Leader of the Isle of Wight Council David Pugh stated that he is "very keen" to promote the island as a great destination for families to head to on a summer break.

"The majority of visitors to the store will be families and we want them to think of the island as a potential holiday destination when they are planning for next year," he said.

"It is fantastic that we are being supported by so many local businesses during the weekend in Hamleys."

The Priory, Park Resorts and St Helens Castle are among the Isle of Wight-based enterprises to have offered prizes for the London event, while coloured sands are to be provided by The Needles Pleasure Park in a bid to attract the attention of attending kids.

A competition will also be held over the weekend with three lucky families winning Isle of Wight holidays - including travel to the island, accommodation during the stay and tickets to a whole host of the island's most popular tourist attractions.

The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival - which is being held on the island in September - is set to be one of the main events promoted during the course of the event at Hamleys.

It runs from the 17th to the 25th of the month and features a wide range of contests for cyclists of all abilities, with one of the highlights likely to be the Cycle the Wight challenge, which aims to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and features routes lasting 15, 50 and 70 miles.
