Isle of Wight holidays recommended for Halloween

Isle of Wight holidays could prove to be popular in the coming days after the island was recommended as one of the top places in the UK to spend the Halloween period.

According to a report by Travelbite, the Isle of Wight could be a great place to take the little ones over the course of the next week as Carisbrooke Castle is hosting a special series of events in order to mark the spooky occasion.

The location is thought to be one of the most haunted spots in the whole of the UK and Professor Midnight will be on hand to lead guests around the venue on ghost walks.

Running from last Saturday (October 22nd) for the rest of the week, families are sure to love the "spine-tingling" trip around the castle, Travelbite said.

"Youngsters will also enjoy taking part in the frightfully fun spooky trail, following clues around the castle to receive a Halloween treat," it was noted by the organisation.

English Heritage members gain access to the site for no cost, while tickets are priced at £7.30 for adults and £4.40 for kids, as well as family passes being available at £19.

Carisbrooke Castle is thought to be almost 1,000 years old, making it one of the oldest buildings in all of the UK and one of the most interesting places to head to during an Isle of Wight holiday.

It is perhaps most famous for being the place that King Charles I was held after he lost the English Civil War in the middle of the 17th century.

The castle became the summer home of Princess Beatrice, who was the daughter of Queen Victoria, during the early part of the 20th century.

Queen Victoria herself was known to be a fan of Isle of Wight holidays and stayed at Osborne House during her time on the island.
