Isle of Wight holidays recommended for fossil hunters

Fossil hunters may be tempted to book Isle of Wight holidays after a national newspaper recommended the island as a great place to go to find old bones.

According to a report in the Independent, along the base of the cliffs at Yaverland is a good location for those on the island to head to if they want to seek out fossils.

It was noted almost every piece of rock to be found on this part of the island will contain some sort of fossil, due to the fact that it is such a rich hunting ground.

Walkers may also wish to book Isle of Wight holidays, with the news provider pointing out how well the island's footpaths are signposted.

The writer revealed how he headed to the Brading Marshes nature reserve during his vacation and described it as an island within an island - "which until a few hundred years ago was the case, when the Isle of Bembridge was separated from the main island by a tidal channel that now forms the course of the River Yar".

Another location on this part of the island that could be a popular place to visit for those on Isle of Wight holidays is the remains of the Roman villa in Brading.

The news provider pointed out it is one of the best examples of its kind to be found in the whole of the UK.

"Whether it is fossils, Romans, wildlife or, indeed, the prevailing 1970s bucket-and-spade charm that draws you here, the Isle of Wight is a walking destination for all seasons," it concluded.

Isle of Wight holidays have also recently been recommended by a report in the Sun, which advised tourists to head to the island for a Christmas break.

People could travel to the Isle of Wight to carry out their Christmas shopping, due to the wide range of emporiums and boutiques to be found on the island.
