Isle of Wight holidays 'may be less stressful than going abroad'

Staying in the UK this summer instead of heading abroad on holiday in the coming weeks could be a good way to reduce stress levels, it has been claimed.

According to expert psychologist Dr David Lewis, it is becoming increasingly stressful and tiring to go on holiday in a foreign country, especially during the month of August.

He noted this is due to the fact that London airports in particular are going to be more congested than usual in the coming weeks as the city is set to host the Olympic Games from July 27th.

Security is going to be ramped up in the coming days to lessen the risk of any incidents and this can increase the stress on families heading abroad.

It may therefore be a better idea to stay in the UK for a staycation this summer, with Isle of Wight holidays among the options that are available for those who decide not to fly away for a break.

"Staying in the UK and within a reasonable driving or travel distance from your home gives you much more of a sense of security and comfort and it allows you to spend more time with your children in a more relaxed atmosphere, particularly if the hotel offers things for kids to do like a swimming pool for example," said Dr Lewis.

Isle of Wight holidays may therefore be the ideal vacation for families based in the south of England, who may only have to embark on a short trip to the coast before a ferry trip to the island, which is sure to provide memories for the little ones in particular.

Dr Lewis was commenting following a study by Holiday Inn which found the perfect break for families involves less than four hours of travelling time.

Some 30 per cent of Britons are expected to holiday in the UK this year, the poll found.
