Isle of Wight holidays 'like floating back into the past'

Isle of Wight holidays could be ideal for those who are stressed, as spending time on the island allows cares to dissipate.

Travelling to the island for a break is like floating back in time, according to Val Javin, writing for the Huddersfield Daily Examiner, who went to the Isle of Wight in order to coincide with the annual sailing regatta Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week.

She explained that when the boat from the mainland pulls away, all of the stresses and worries from life at home are left on the docks.

Ms Javin added her ferry to the Isle of Wight was "packed with people of every age, every race and every possible taste in holiday fashion", showing the island's diverse appeal.

Although there was plenty of entertainment on offer for the Aberdeen Asset Management Cowes Week, such as shows by the likes of Bootleg Blondie, Alvin Stardust, Blues Brothers International, The All Stars and ABBA Revival, the writer was more impressed with some of the street performers she encountered during her Isle of Wight holiday.

She said: "Three boys played ukelele - the instrument of the moment, apparently - their bright, reedy voices cutting through the noise and bustle."

Ms Javin took in some of the racing on offer during the sailing regatta, which she stated contained plenty of "adrenaline rushes and sheer drama".

"There were spectacular thrills and spills, thankfully no injuries and plenty of cheers for Isle of Wight boy Leigh McMillan," she added.

This weekend (August 20th and 21st), Isle of Wight holidays are being promoted at an event that is being held at the famous London toy store Hamley's.

Leader of the Isle of Wight Council David Pugh explained many families are expected to check out the island as a result and he is keen to promote the resort as one that is ideal for parents and children to enjoy during a break.
