Isle of Wight holidays 'foster sense of belonging' for young people

Isle of Wight holidays have been taken by a group of young people, with the end result of the break said to have fostered a sense of belonging among the individuals involved.

More than a dozen teenagers enjoyed a weekend stay at Westbrook House on the Isle of Wight and took part in a wide range of activities, reports the Salisbury Journal.

Rev Pip Martin of St James' Church explained craft classes were among the tasks handled by the young people during their stay on the island.

He told the newspaper it is the third time a group of teenagers from the area have been taken on Isle of Wight holidays and stated he believes this is important for their development.

"It fosters a sense of belonging and helps young people to grow in confidence and it teaches real Christianity, the ability to all get along," the reverend was quoted as saying by the news provider.

Rev Martin is also organising a festival that is set to take place in Alderholt, which could feature many of the teenagers who recently returned from their Isle of Wight holidays.

The event, which is titled reCreate, will see a performance from Take That tribute band Fake That, as well as a show by comedian Andy Kind.

It gets underway on April 4th to mark the start of the Easter break and will hold a giant Zumba class, along with an open mic night.

"We are very excited about this festival, which is the first of its kind in the village. I am told that Fake That is one of the best tribute bands in the country," added the reverend.

Fake That have shows scheduled all over the country in the coming weeks, with gigs lined up for locations such as Hamilton, Oxford, Hampshire, East Lothian, Dorset and Bolton in the next two months.
