Isle of Wight holidaymakers told to stay safe

Tourists taking Isle of Wight holidays later this summer have been given advice on how to stay safe during their stay on the island.

With the hot weather likely to encourage many people to head to the beach this weekend, the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) is encouraging holidaymakers to bear safety in mind at all times.

Steve Wills, RNLI beach safety manager, pointed out that two-thirds of all incidents handled by the organisation last year involved children.

He said: "We would urge the parents to take extra caution when they go to the beach with their kids, make sure they stay with them at all times especially in the water."

Parents should use beaches with lifeguards if possible and be aware of the areas the staff are covering, he added.

Last month, the Isle of Wight's beaches won fourteen awards at the Keep Britain Tidy Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards, making the island one of the best areas in the country for enjoying a beach break.
