Isle of Wight holiday on ferry 'is environmentally-friendly'
Fri 3 Sep 2010
Tourists looking to keep an eye on their carbon footprint and take a break that is environmentally-friendly have been told ferry travel is green, which could provide a popularity boost for Isle of Wight holidays.
According to Richard Hammond, chief executive and founder of greentraveller.co.uk, ferry travel especially makes sense for people who live close to a port, for instance on the south coast of England.
"The idea that ferries are that old pitch-and-roll idea that are not very comfortable and it's more of a grit your teeth and get through it [has changed]," he said.
Mr Hammond added that ferries now include "fantastic services".
These positive words may reassure anyone who has always wanted to take an Isle of Wight holiday but had previously been put off by the thought of ferry travel.
Shunning air travel and instead going on holiday via a ferry is one of the greenest ways to travel, according to new statistics, which stated that only 22.54g of CO2 per passenger is emitted each kilometre on ferries.
