Isle of Wight 'has so much to do'

Isle of Wight holidays have been recommended to families looking for somewhere to visit this summer that has lots of activities on offer.

One of the best things about the island is no matter what the weather is like, there is always so much to do, noted the Daily Mirror.

Despite the fact the island is only 23 miles long by 13 miles wide, it attracts more than 20 tourists every year for each Isle of Wight resident, it pointed out.

Blackgang Chine is one of the popular destinations for those headed on trips to the island, due to its "quaint charm", despite its rides not being as spectacular as some of the ones available at theme parks in other locations around the UK.

Writer Jonathan Clarke said his family paid £40 for a ticket and were able to return as often as they liked during the week for no extra charge they were on the Isle of Wight.

"You'll find similar deals at other attractions, such as Robin Hill, where you can see one of the finest falconry displays and can wander for an hour - or four - through the gardens," he pointed out.

Robin Hill is also notable as every year it hosts tens of thousands of revellers who travel to the Isle of Wight in their fancy dress garb in order to attend Bestival, one of the island's two major annual music festivals.

Mr Clarke and his family stayed at St Helens marina during their Isle of Wight holiday and noted that it was a "hive of activity".

"That's another funny thing about the island. It attracts everybody - from yachting types, to families with kids and plenty of pensioners," he added.

Actress and singer Jane Birkin recently told the Independent one of her earliest memories is of going on Isle of Wight holidays, where she was given freedom to explore with her siblings.
