Isle of Wight 'has its own microclimate'

Tourists who book Isle of Wight holidays can look forward to experiencing a unique microclimate during their time on the island.

The Kooks singer Luke Pritchard explained that the island is his favourite place in the UK and some of his family live in Newchurch, which is located close to Sandown.

Speaking to the Independent, he stated that he has performed at the Isle of Wight Festival on a couple of occasions.

Pritchard added that those who book Isle of Wight holidays might be able to enjoy Mediterrenean weather during their time on the island if they are lucky with the timing of their trip.

"Ventnor is beautiful, too: a formerly grand seaside town, which is now a faded glory," said the star, who has enjoyed hits with tracks such as Naive.

Pritchard may also enjoy travelling to the Isle of Wight as he confessed to disliking spending time in airports, which he will have done a lot due to his career as a touring musician.

"I appreciate the reasons for security being there, but it's quite difficult sometimes. Everywhere feels homogenised when you travel a lot," he explained.

The singer added that he also likes to drive around the Isle of Wight when he takes a trip there, describing the island as "accessible" and explaining it can be crossed in around an hour.

He pointed out it is only recently he has passed his test, so he is still enjoying the novelty of being able to get behind the wheel.

Pritchard's description of Ventnor matches that made by Janet Street-Porter recently in an article in the weekend magazine of the Daily Mail.

The former editor of the Independent on Sunday called the seaside town the UK's equivalent of Biarritz or Deauville, according to a report by the local news source VentnorBlog.
