Isle of Wight enjoys heatwave

Isle of Wight holidays could be popular among those tourists looking to get away for some October sunshine, as the island is currently enjoying an Indian summer.

According to a report by the Isle of Wight County Press, the Met Office estimated temperatures over the course of the weekend to have been around the 24C mark.

Simon Dabell, tourism chairman at the Chamber of Commerce, Tourism and Industry, told the news provider the good weather is a boost for the island.

Sonia Mitchell from the Isle of Wight Zoo added: "It's near the end of the season but we have still got a lot going on."

It was also pointed out by the destination's representative that many of the buses heading to the tourist location have been fuller than usual for this time of year.

Animals housed at the Isle of Wight Zoo - which is a family-run venue - include tigers, lions, lemurs and monkeys, as well as jaguars.
