Isle of Wight architecture to be honoured
Wed 17 Feb 2010
Tourists going on Isle of Wight holidays may be keen to spend time examining the local architecture.
The Isle of Wight Society is again running the Conservation Awards, which aims to recognise the most attractive and significant buildings on the island.
Many of the attributes of local structures will come under the spotlight, such as the quality of the construction work and their visual appeal.
People are being invited to submit nominations of any kind, such as brand new developments, extensions and successful restoration projects.
According to the Isle of Wight County Press, the award scheme is the equivalent of the Oscars for the island's buildings.
Last year, Wesley Mews in High Street, Wootton, secured the Isle of Wight Society Conservation Award.
More than 20 projects were nominated, including five which received certificates of merit.
Chit-Chat House in Cowes was among the lucky few, along with Moons Hill House in Totland Bay.
