Head to Hag at Quay Arts

Visitors to the Isle of Wight this summer are in for a treat if they head along to Hag at Quay Arts.

Aimed at audiences ranging from ten years to adulthood, the show is a re-telling of the folk stories of the witch Baba Yaga - a character that runs throughout Slavic folklore.

Featuring a combination of live action, puppetry, music and physical theatre, the show will be taking place at Quay Arts on August 31st at 19:00 BST and admission will cost £11 for kids and £13 for adults.

The show explores the story of Lisa, a young girl given a gift by her dying mother - something she doesn't want. However, learning to accept it could be the only thing that can ultimately save her life.

Put on by The Wrong Crowd, the show is told from the perspective of Baba Yaga herself - a child-eating monster with a penchant for collecting the skulls of her victims. It is not one for the faint-hearted, but is suitable for kids aged ten and up.

Indeed, Bonnie Mitchell, one of the show's producers, told the Isle of Wight County Press: "Baba Yaga could be thought of as representing those experiences in life that come out of the blue and whip the rug out from under your feet. We'll probably all have them at some point during our lives and the show might speak to those experiences for people."

She added the company was excited by the prospect of drawing on aspects of this wonderful character, with Baba Yaga often described in tales both as a monster and a teacher, showcasing an odd dichotomy that can leave audiences both bewildered and enlightened.

It is the follow up to The Wrong Crowd's critically-acclaimed The Girl with the Iron Claws from 2011 and is a captivating performance that will thrill and excite its audiences.

The Guardian described Hag as "theatrical magic", while the Scotsman stated it is "fresh, unusal and sinister".ADNFCR-3083-ID-801629972-ADNFCR
