Foreign holidaymakers 'attracted to Isle of Wight'

The Isle of Wight has been attracting healthy number of overseas visitors, according to a report.

Visit Britain stated that more than a third of the people who came to the south-east of England from outside of the UK either took an Isle of Wight holiday or went to another of the region's coastal areas.

The countryside (51 per cent) and villages (55 per cent) were popular attractions for foreigners who took a trip to the south-east of England, the Activities Undertaken by Visitors from Overseas in Different Parts of Britain report found.

Visit Britain commented: "The researchers focused on foreign holidaymakers rather than business travellers and people visiting friends and relations and those that stayed in only one area."

Sean Tipton, spokesman for ABTA - The Travel Association, recently stated that people could be looking to take shorter breaks such as Isle of Wight holidays to try to make their finances stretch a bit further.
