Ex-England international takes Isle of Wight holiday

Ex-England international goalkeeper David Seaman took an Isle of Wight holiday with his partner this week, taking a trip to the Owl and Monkey Haven, Newport, on Valentine's Day.

The former Arsenal star - who made over 700 club appearances and collected 75 caps for his country during his distinguished sporting career, was pictured at the location with the Dancing on Ice star Frankie Poultney at the location, reports the Isle of Wight County Press.

Seaman later took to his Twitter page to inform his 73,000 followers on the social networking site that he thinks the Owl and Monkey Haven in Newport is an amazing place.

He added: "We had the Marmosets all over us!!"

The pair decided to adopt Freda, a snowy owl, and KeeKee, a marmoset, during their Isle of Wight holiday, as well as making a donation to the running of the facility.

Money handed over by the couple will be used to go towards the Martin and Lulu appeal to build a joint enclosure to bring the sanctuary's celebrity capuchins, Martin and Lulu, together.

David Wickes, of the Owl and Monkey Haven, said: "They just turned up, out of the blue. They were lovely and I think they really enjoyed the marmoset encounter."

During the winter, the sanctuary is open from 10:00 GMT to 16:00 GMT, with the hours extended by an extra 120 minutes in the evenings in the summer months.

A wide range of owls are looked after at the location, including a pair of Egyptian eagle owls, eight barn owls and a Turkmenian eagle owl, as well as other birds such as common buzzards.

The facility also cares for a male javan langur, a male Siamang gibbon, a pair of red-bellied tamarins, six marmosets and a couple of other gibbons.
