Catch the Lisa Traxler exhibition at Quarr Abbey

Don't miss a unique exhibition from established artist Lisa Traxler, taking place at Quarr Abbey on the Isle of Wight this autumn.

Traxler's award-winning pieces have already been showcased at major venues all over the UK, including the Royal College of Art, Mall Galleries and the Crypt Gallery.

From October 31st to November 5th, her Stories to Tell installation is be on display at the abbey, a monastery nestled between the villages of Fishbourne and Binstead.

The artist is known for her distinct style of abstract paintings, featuring acrylic on canvas, vitreous enamel on steel, sculptures made using enamel and steel and stitched collages.

Her mural painted on the outside of her house attracted the attention of the media and was aired on national television, leading to her being commended at the Architects Journal Awards in 2011.

It is not the first time Traxler has exhibited her work on the island, as a major solo installation of her art put on display in the West Gallery at Quay Arts in 2012, as part of a tour that saw her move on to the ExCel in London and The Lightbox in Surrey.

The artist is primarily inspired by her environment, as well as personal memories and conversations, with her works representing "the experienced, felt and intuited world", according to her website.

If you haven't had the chance to visit Quarr Abbey yet, then Traxler's exhibition is the perfect excuse. The building is an extremely atmospheric place to walk around, boasting magnificent architecture and plenty of tranquil spaces to relax in.

Originally built at the beginning of the 20th century as a monastery for the French Benedictine community of Solesmes, the abbey now has its own bookshop and tea rooms as well as the gallery.

The abbey is a grade-one listed building and is considered one of the most important religious structures in the UK.ADNFCR-3083-ID-801647115-ADNFCR
