Britons encouraged to holiday in UK

Destinations such as the Isle of Wight could be in demand after Britons were encouraged to holiday at home this year.

According to the British Leisure Show, people do not have to go abroad to enjoy activities such as rock climbing and canoeing.

Indeed, managing director James Brooke said British consumers can enjoy almost any pursuit they can think of without having to leave the country.

He highlighted kayaking as one example, along with horse riding, camping, caravanning and boating.

"The UK has an extraordinary amount to offer," Mr Brooke commented.

He added that many campsites and caravan parks in Britain have been receiving a record number of bookings in the last few months.

Mr Brooke said this shows that people are now "actively going out and looking for what is available".

This comes after a study by Lloyds TSB found that one in three people from the UK plan to holiday in Britain this year.
